American Military Conducts Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Deaths

As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the US military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.

“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Prior Actions

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military presence.

Just on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.

Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to suggest a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's current government.
