An extensive 60-day journey around Australia is being halted days after the fatal incident of an older woman who was left behind by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The vessel left without her and returned after some time after the personnel realised the woman was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her body the next day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that travelers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The vessel originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was just two days into the journey at the point of the elderly woman's demise. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of currency to take part in the expedition - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of trekking or snorkelling.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left the location after an scheduled excursion without my parent".

Through her comments, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a walking group.

"From the little facts we have been told, it appears that there was a failure of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She further stated that she wished the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have done that might have saved Mother's being".
