This January transfer market is typically a time of feverish speculation and potential big-money moves. A number of notable footballers are being linked with transfers away from their present clubs. We examine a selection of the key figures who might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the player available, reports suggest a significant move is imminent. This 25-year-old has a deal with a substantial release clause applicable for a short window at the start of the month. Recent reports indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to other options, leaving clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace this season a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. As his contract due to expire in the summer, January is the club's last opportunity to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a January exit remains unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

The Welsh forward has had starting minutes limited at Spurs this term. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has started only a handful of Premier League matches. It is understood the North London club is open to a sale for the right price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal midfielder might be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, and with his contract ending in the summer, he is a possible bargain. Teams like Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are rumours from Spain that he is willing to take a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following new coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had surgery, a winter exit seems highly probable. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a possible suitor, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his dwindling chances of being in the national squad. But, securing a deal presents major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his reported enormous salary render any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

This dynamic midfielder drew widespread attention in the off-season but stayed at Atlético. With limited starting appearances in La Liga this season, he may be keen to find more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been heavily linked, and a return to Crystal Palace, a club he shone on a temporary deal, is also a possibility, though financial demands could be a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Despite excelling and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented midfielder has found it tough for game time on loan at Villa. The manager has stated the temporary transfer will not be made permanent. Because of specific rules about representing two clubs in a season, a return to his parent club prior to next season appears to be the sole available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkish attacker has been in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his current contract nearing its end, many English clubs – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a race to retain one of Europe's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ side. The teenager is heavily expected to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at around £22 million.
